Larry Lee Spengler

Larry Lee Spengler, 79, of Sherrard, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Swedona Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be from 10 until service time at the church.  Burial will be at the German Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.

Larry was born on December 31, 1942, in Moline the son of Virgil and Lorraine Jinks Spengler.  He married Cheryl Allison on August 29, 1969, at the Ophiem Grace Lutheran Church.

Larry was a United States Army Veteran serving in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart.  He started his career with the Farmers State Bank of Sherrard, he then went on to work with the United States Army Corps of Engineers retiring in 2007.  Currently Larry was actively farming.  He was a member of the Swedona Lutheran Church and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.

Larry is survived by his wife and children, Dana and Denny Johnston of Viola; Darren and Debra Spengler of Sherrard and Brannon and Hilary Spengler of Sherrard.  Grandchildren, Max, Alex, Augie, Jordy and Archie.  Siblings, John “Jack” Spengler, Tom and Janet Spengler and Jan and Gary Dochterman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
