LaVerne Marjory Petersen

June 13, 1925 — October 30, 2008

LaVerne Marjory Petersen, age 83, died Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Silver Cross Nursing Center at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Moline. Visitation is from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Moline or Friendship Manor.
LaVerne was born June 13, 1925 in Chicago, IL.,the daughter of Vernon T. and Olga (Klomhaus) Johnson. She married James D. Petersen on September 25, 1948 in First Lutheran Church in Moline and recently they celebrated their 60th anniversary.
LaVerne graduated from Moline High School in 1943 and was employed as a secretary at the Moline Iron Works, the Augustana Book Concern in Rock Island and the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in Urbana. She was also a continuity writer for radio station WQUA in Moline.
LaVerne was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Moline where she taught Sunday School for 10 years, and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years. She was especially involved in church women's activities. She loved to travel and visit with family and friends. She also enjoyed entertaining and organizing activities. LaVerne will be remembered for her friendliness and willingness to help other people.
LaVerne is survived by her husband, James, Rock Island; son John Petersen, Silvis; daughter and son-in-law Patti and Jeff Linman, Orlando, FL; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Karen Petersen, Bettendorf, brother Don Johnson, Rock Island; and four grandchildren, Matt and Katie Petersen and Joshua and Sarah Linman.
