Lela I. Hawkins, 93, of Orion, IL, died peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery.
Lela was born on October 25, 1920, in Murrayville, IL, the daughter of Earl and Helen (Dobson) Hall. She married Ross Hawkins on August 19, 1939, in Missouri and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1979.
Lela worked part-time for several years at the former Peterson Sausage in Orion. She was a life member of First Baptist Church in Orion and a member of the Shining Lights Organization. She and other residents of Orion helped create the Orion Senior Citizens Group. Since the inception of the Orion Fall Festival she made pies for the auction which was her way of giving to her community.
