Leland C Murphy, age 93, of East Moline, died Saturday, March 14, 2009.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Bethany Baptist Church, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church
Leland was born November 5, 1915 in Louisville, IL the son of Albert and Zella (Chandler) Murphy. He married Erma Bailey on January 8, 1941 in Owensboro, KY. She preceded him in death on January 12, 1979. He then married Adria Hanson in June 26, 1982. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Leland was employed for 34 years in the East Moline School District as a teacher and then as a principal retiring in 1978. He was a Navy veteran. Leland was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Christian Education Board as a trustee and deacon. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan, and loved watching basketball and baseball. He enjoyed flowers, gardening, woodworking, camping and traveling around the United States. He also enjoyed family games and family gatherings.
Leland had a strong faith and love for God and his family which he exemplified through his daily living.
