Leo D. Aten

June 18, 1920 — February 14, 2006

Leo D. Aten, 85, of Moline, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 1p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Moline or Oak Glen Home.
Leo was born June 18, 1920 in New Salem Township, IL, the son of Gale and Bulah Luella Coyner Aten. He married Marjorie Viola Joelson on January 30, 1943 at the Bethany Baptist Church, Moline. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2005.
Leo was a tool and die maker at John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline for 36 years, retiring on August 1, 1983. He also taught tool and die apprentices for 17 years for the Davenport School System and later at Scott Community College.
He was an U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WWII and he was also a retired CWO4 from the Naval Air Reserve. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 246, Moline. Leo was a member of the IAM Union #1215, East Moline, Moline Lodge 1014 AF & AM, and also Thor Lodge #9 Independent Order of Vikings.
Leo was a member of the First Baptist Church, Moline. When his son was a youth, he coached Dad's Club Baseball, Moline Park Board basketball and flag football.
