Leona Mabeus

Leona Mabeus, 86, of Orion, IL, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. 1301 4th Street, Orion.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Faith Family Church.

Leona was born on April 1, 1931, in Sherrard, IL, the daughter of Lester and Mary Gould Holliday.  She married Delmar Mabeus in 1950 in Coal Valley, IL, and he preceded her in death in January of 1990.  She worked as a supervisor merchandiser for the Daily Dispatch until 1996 and for Hallmark until 2008, retiring after 18 years.

In her younger years Leona drove a milk truck for her family business.  She truly was a “Jack of all trades.” Leona was a member of Faith Family Church and enjoyed painting and wall papering.

Survivors include her 4 children, Diane (Robert) Moon, Tim (Mibbs) Mabeus, Roy Mabeus, and Mary Ann Mabeus and her special friend, Ron; 5 grandchildren, Angela Graves, Ashley Slater, Mandy Saunders, Stephanie McClain, and Brandi Hull; 7 great grandchildren, Josiah, Joshua, Hannah, Cortney, Casandra, Landon, and Eden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Anna, Rena, Dorothy, Marie, Bob, Charles, Ruth, Don, and Desyl.
