Lillian A. Hultgren

Lillian Annette Hultgren, 93, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is at Andover Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence and the American Cancer Society.
Lillian was born on July, 9, 1918 in St. Louis, MO, to Major Ervin and Carrie (Wieters) Walser. Following graduation from Northwestern University, she was hired to teach Latin at John Deere Junior High School in Moline where she met her future husband, Lamont W. Hultgren. She married Lamont on June 12, 1943 at Andover Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1987.
After raising her family, Lillian returned to John Deere Junior High School as a Latin and English teacher and, following postgraduate work, the school librarian. She retired from the Moline Public School System in 1981, after 19 years. Following retirement, Lillian and her husband owned and operated the Antique Scene in Moline. She was a member of many bridge clubs, Salem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was recently honored by the American Legion Auxiliary for 90 years of membership.
She is survived by many wonderful friends and family, including her children: Dr. Lawrence and Mary Hultgren, Virginia Beach, VA, Lorene (Hultgren) and Charles Cross, Kalamazoo, MI, Lew and Sue Hultgren, Petersburg, IL; grandchildren Kristian and Donya Hultgen, Dr. Aaron and Patra Hultgren, Erika (Cross) and Jason Milovich, Hilary Cross, Cameron and Tracy Cross, and Carrie (Hultgren) and Ryan Hoffman; great grandchildren Lucas and Jay Hultgren, Lily and Jasper Hultgren, Zachary Cross, Stella Milovich, and Haylie Hoffman; sister Dorothy Walser and sisters and brother-in-law Francis and Wallace Wiedenhoeft, Dorothy Hultgren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, newborn brother and husband.
