Lois was born on April 30, 1928, in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Amelia Neumann Kane. She married George Hopkins on June 10, 1956, in Geneseo, and he preceded her in death in 1992.

She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1946, and attended Illinois State Normal, Normal, IL. She graduated from Moline Institute of Commerce as an executive secretary. She also earned an Emergency Teaching Certificate.

Lois was an inspiration to those she met and a friend to many. She could touch you without saying a word and always had a smile, a word of encouragement, and hugs whenever needed. She had a way of getting the best out of you in any situation and a willingness to spread the Gospel to all she came in contact with.

Lois became the regular church organist at age 16 for her home congregation for 25 years. She taught school in a 1 room school house teaching grades 1 thru 8. She worked for several Quad City companies as a secretary and then stayed at home with her children. Lois took a part time position in their elementary school cafeteria until she was offered what would be her dream job as Christian Education Director at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. There, she wrote portions of Sunday school materials. She worked joyously until retiring in 2005.

Lois loved to be involved in life. She enjoyed her family and sent dozens of greeting cards out monthly. She played several instruments, including the piano, which she also taught. Lois performed as a soloist and led adult and children's choirs. She taught EZ longhand and phonics. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and going out to eat with family and friends.

Lois was a charter member of NSA (National Secretaries Association), a lifetime member of PTA (Parent Teacher Association), and worked for the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
