Lorain G. Birkeland, 95, of Rock Island, IL, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Moline.
Lorain was born on September 29, 1918, in St. Killian, MN, the daughter of Henry and Rose (Handwerk) Schroer. She married Ossie G. Birkeland on January 31, 1939, in Sibley, IA, and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1986.
Lorain and her husband, Ossie, owned and operated Birkeland Auto Sales and Quad City Auto Auction. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Moline since 1939 and was active in all areas of church work. She also did volunteer work with United Medical Center Auxiliary and Christian Friendliness.
