Lucille I. Almquist, 98, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline.

Lucille was born on November 20, 1916, in Marengo, IA, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth Gorsch Obermueller. She married Leo Ortiz on September 14, 1935 and later married Clarence Almquist on March 23, 1946, in Virginia, IL. She worked as a payroll clerk for the City of Moline for 23 years, retiring in 1979.

Lucille loved her family, playing cards, and dancing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She also loved taking reservations and ordering food for the Senior Dinners. She was active with Girl Scouts and the Willard PTA. Lucille was a secretary for AARP and the Vice President of Widows & Widowers.

Many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Leon Obermueller and Henry Schafuch; sisters, Marcella Schafuch, Emma Vogt, and Vi Xander; 3 step children, Georgann Benson, Dick Almquist, and Elaine Young.
