Mabel Howard, 80, of Moline, IL, formerly of Wheaton and Dixon, died Monday, August 24, 2015, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August, 31, 2015, at First Evangelical Free Church, 3321 7th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Beulah Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church.
Mabel was born on June 4, 1935, in Herod, IL, the daughter of George W. and Golda Marie Bebout Howard. She worked at the Dixon State School and First Federal Savings & Loan. For many years, she worked as a secretary in Dixon for Sinow and Wienman. Mabel briefly worked for Imeco Inc. in Polo, IL. While she was living in Dixon, she was the church secretary for the Dixon Area Christian and Missionary Alliance, where she attended. She then worked for the Midwest District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Bloomingdale.
Later she worked as an executive secretary for Scripture Press/Victor Books from where she retired in 1999. Following her retirement, Mabel cared for her mother for several years before she passed away.
Mabel was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she was very active. She attended First Evangelical Free Church in Moline.
Mabel enjoyed playing table tennis with senior citizens in Wheaton. She made placemats out of greeting cards and enjoyed patchwork, crossword puzzles, sewing, and walking. She was very detail conscious and enjoyed working with her hands even making a desk and table for her home. The most important thing to her was her family who loved her very much.
Survivors include her sisters, JoAnna (Lyle) Johnson, Orion, IL, and Sue Miller, Mobile, AL; many nieces and nephews including, niece, Janelle (Bruce) Daasch, Rock Island, IL; nephews, Brian (Anne) Johnson, Davenport, IA, David (Laura) Danay, Rock Island, IL, and Ivan (Janice) Danay, Moline, IL; many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Wanda Howard and Gleda (Fred) Danay; 3 brothers, Roland Eugene (Betty) Howard, Len Howard, and Dennis L. Howard.
