Margaret C. Ferguson, 85, of The Villages, FL, formerly of Moline, IL, died on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Heidi's Haven in Fruitland Park, FL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial is at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Villagers for Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162; Alzheimer's Family Organization, P.O. Box 1939, New Port Richey, FL 34656 or a charity of one's choice.
Margaret C. DeSmet Ferguson was born in Rock Island, IL on April 8, 1927. She graduated from Rock Island High School and received nurses training at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, IL. She married Marion D. Ferguson on November 20, 1948 in Paris, IL. Margaret was employed by the U.S. Army Department of Defense, Army Material Command at the Rock Island Arsenal as a budget analyst. She then became a program analyst in the International Logistic Directorate Egypt Air Defense Office. She attended Black Hawk College during the first years of employment at the Rock Island Arsenal. Margaret retired in March, 1987. Margaret and Marion enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. They built a home in The Villages, FL in October 1996 and moved there from Moline, IL in 2000. Margaret was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL and St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake and was a member of the American Business Women's Association, Illinois Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Clara Lodge Moline Viking Club, Red Hats Society, De La Vista North neighborhood Ladies Golf Group, and the Hole in One Club. Margaret enjoyed boating with family and the grandchildren on the Mississippi River and on Greer's Ferry Lake at Fairfield Bay, AR. She was an avid golfer making 3 holes in one during the first five years in The Villages.
She is survived by husband Marion, daughter Jan Wilken, son Steve Ferguson, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Leo and Minnie DeSmet, five brothers, 3 sisters and son Michael Ferguson.
