Margie Schaechter Frakes, 91, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Charter Senior Living in Moline, Illinois.

A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 pm on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory in Moline, Illinois. Private funeral and interment services will be on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Memorials may be left in care of the family.

Margie was born at home in Viola, Illinois on April 27, 1934, to Charles and Florance Schaechter. She graduated from Viola High School in 1952. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Bradley University and a Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University. She married her childhood sweetheart, Arlen Barry Frakes on August 20, 1955, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Viola, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1985.

Margie spent most of her career at the Rockridge School District in Edgington, Illinois, as an elementary school teacher/principal, social studies teacher, and finally guidance counselor. After retiring from education, she received her real estate license and was a realtor for Mel Foster. She taught catechism at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Edgington, Illinois, was a member of Parents Too Soon in Rock Island County and served on the committee instrumental in forming the first abused women & children’s center.

Those left to cherish Margie’s memory include her children, Kristin Nelson, Stephen (Lori) Frakes, Stacy (Jeff) DePorter, and Kurt (Kelly) Frakes; grandchildren, Erin Christner, Alyson Schumacher, Anthony Frakes, Andrew Frakes, Austin DePorter, Lauren McManus, Callahan DePorter, Jenna Bohland, Alexa Weihler, Hunter Frakes, Madelyn DePorter, Connor Frakes, Tyler Nelson, and Carson Frakes; twenty-five great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Schaechter and sister, Mim Merta; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her son-in-law, Daryl Nelson.
