Marguerite Moores Long, widow of William T. Long, 98, of Lake Orion, Michigan, died on May 16, 2024 just 2 days short of her 99th birthday, in the home of her daughter, Victoria, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in Madison County, Kentucky on May 18, 1924, to Margaret and Clarence Moores. She was the youngest of nine children. All of her siblings preceded her in death. (Russell Moores, Douglas Moores, Lucille Benton, Raymond Moores, CC Moores, Elizabeth Mullikan, Frankie Tudor, Rhuben Moores)
Marguerite married her husband, William T. Long, in March 1946. They spent their adult working years in the service of the United States government. William was an Ammunition Inspector Branch Chief and Marguerite started as a Secretary in the Department of Defense and rose to the position of Logistics Specialist. Because of their occupations they spent their working years moving from Army Installation to Army Installation across the United States and France, 10 joint postings in all.
Marguerite was an avid dancer, trophied bowler and enthusiastic card player.
Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Victoria Harshall (Patrick Harshall), 3 Grandchildren (Meghan Harlow, Ryan Harshall and Shaun Harshall), six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Marguerite will be eternally grateful for those that cared for her in her last years. Among them were Tina Armstrong, Nadja Strohmeyer, Tina Berryer and the wonderful attendants and nurses from Cardinal/Transitions Hospice.
Marguerite was laid to rest in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Illinois, next to her beloved husband, Bill.
