Moline

Marilyn J. Harter, 97, formerly of Moline, passed away Tuesday June 27, 2023, at home in Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday June 30, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Friendship Manor.

Marilyn was born on September 13, 1925, in Moline, the daughter of Edwin W. and Margaret G. (Thorngren) Nelson. She graduated from Moline High School and attended Augustana College. Marilyn worked at Deere & Company until she married John C. Weekley on November 20, 1954, in Moline. He preceded her in death. She later married Curtiss W. Harter on August 2, 1981, in Moline. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2002. Marilyn was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. She enjoyed golfing at Oakwood Country Club. She volunteered her time with the Red Cross, Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels. Marilyn loved to travel and visited all 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She particularly loved her motorhome, bowling and most recently playing bridge and reading.

Survivors include her stepdaughter, Sheila (Tom) Taylor, Hampton, IL; grandchildren, Greg Francis, Johnston, IA, Jeff (fiancé Robyn) Francis, Orion, Todd Francis, Temple, TX, Jim (Nikki) Taylor, Aledo, Scott Taylor, Newton, IA; numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; stepchildren, Sandra Weekley Frakes and Donald, Michele Weekley Christansen and Richard, Pamela Harter Nelson and Carl, and Curtiss Harter, Jr; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald & Pat Nelson, Norma Hughes Nelson, and Rodney & Myrtle Hoover Nelson and step-granddaughter-in-law, Julie Francis.
