Marlowe “Jean” Parein, 83, of Moline, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the funeral home.  Entombment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  

Jean was born on August 18, 1940, in Moline, the daughter of Edward and Marlowe (Merry) Dempsey. She married Charles Catterton in 1960. Jean later married Richard Parein on July 22, 1978, in Hampton, Illinois. He preceded her in death. She was previously employed for 35 years for the Rock Island School District as a secretary and accounts payable clerk. Jean was a member of the AFSME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees). She was the Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary at Friends Circle Club for many years.

Survivors include her children, Lori (John) Buffington and Rob Catterton; grandchildren, Rick (Shana) Clark, Christy Clark, Kelli Catterton; great grandchildren, Carter Stone, Skylar Stone, Kameron Jackson, Silas McKay, Sawyer Clark, Olivia Clark; sister, Linda Smith; and Dick Truitt, her companion of many years who was always there for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert T. Dempsey.
