Marshall Beals

Marshall E. Beals, 90, of Hampton, IL, died Monday, September 21, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center - Silvis Campus, Silvis, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Marshall was born on November 22, 1924, in Moline, IL, the son of William C. and Agnes Engh Beals. He married Bobbie Reinhold on October 22, 1960, in Peoria, IL. He worked as a tool designer for the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring on April 1, 1988. Prior to that, he worked at Reynolds Engineering.

Marshall was a veteran, having proudly served as a bombardier on a B24 Liberator in the United States Navy during WWII. He served with the VPB 117 squadron - The Blue Raiders. He enjoyed reunions with his squadron for many years.

Marshall was a graduate of Rock Island High School and later of the University of Iowa. He enjoyed golf and was a Chicago Bears fan. He was a member of the Hampton Historical Society and loved spending time with his dog, Sonny.

Survivors include his loving wife, Bobbie; sons, Daniel (Cathy) Beals, Colorado Springs, CO, Bill (Cheryl) Beals, Hampton, IL, and James M. Beals, Moline, IL; grandchildren, Danny Beals, Mark Beals, and Nikki Beals; 9 great grandchildren; life-long friend, Ralph Slentz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Dana Beals; brother, Richard Beals.
