Martin Sanchez

Martin Sanchez, 86, of Oak Lawn, IL, formerly of East Moline, IL, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Christ Adventist Hospital, Oak Lawn, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi, Oak Lawn, IL. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with services.

Martin was born on January 2, 1928, in Hammond, IN, the son of Domingo and Quanna (Gonzales) Sanchez. He married Esperanza "Hope" Ramirez and she preceded him in death on March 25, 1972. He later married Angela R. Cobos on May 29, 1982, at the "Little Brown Church in the Valley" of Wagon Wheel Resort in Rockford, IL, and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2011. After Angela's passing, Martin moved to a Chicago area nursing home in 2012.

Martin worked as a supervisor in fabricating for Rolley Collins Co., retiring after 30 years of service in 1989. He was a member of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. Martin enjoyed yard work and gardening, electrical work, and landscaping. He liked to offer his help to his neighbors with any handy work that was needed.

Martin and Angela loved traveling through Florida, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Las Vegas was their favorite. They loved ballroom dancing and square dancing and belonged to several dancing clubs in Chicago and the Quad Cities area. Martin and Angela were frequent diners at Bishop's and Quad City U.S.A. They lived in the same house in East Moline together for 25 years and very much enjoyed attending New Year's Eve parties at Circa 21 with his step daughter, Frances and Joel. They also enjoyed the riverboats and the company of each other.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; 3 sisters; 2 brothers.
