Marvin E Nelson

Marvin "Gene" E. Nelson, 87, of Orion, IL, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Orion United Methodist Church, 407 12th Avenue, Orion. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church.

Marvin was born on April 3, 1928, in Moline, IL, the son of Gunnard and Marie Lyon Nelson. He married Kay F. Palmgren on April 2, 1974, in Orion. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1945 and farmed in the Orion area. He was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army.

Marvin was a member of Orion United Methodist Church, where he was the head usher for 20 years and continued to be very active. Marvin was also on the Church Board of Trustees as well as the Worship Committee. He was a member of the Henry county Farm Bureau and the Orion FFA Alumni.

Survivors include his loving wife, Kay, son, Kurt Nelson, Orion, IL; sister-in-law, Doris Nelson, SC; niece, Debbie (Mark) Ulseth, Bloomington, IL; 2 nephews, David (Samantha) Nelson, SC, and Danny Nelson, Milan, TN; many great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Nelson.
