Marvin D. Spohn, 90, of East Moline, passed away, Friday, July 02, 2021, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.
Family services were held. Graveside services were held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with military honors conducted. Memorials may be made to Flag Restoration Project www.flagrestorationproject.org .
Marvin was born on October 6, 1930, in Miami, OK, the son of Martin and Rosa (Willard) Spohn. Marvin had a full and interesting life. He was born and raised on the family farm during the depression in Oklahoma and learned the welding trade at the age of 12 from working in his father’s shop. He later worked in the zinc mines in Pitcher OK. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and in the reserves following the war. Marvin married Elsie L. Scoles on July 8, 1950, in Miami, OK. Together they owned and operated a drive-in restaurant in Baxter Springs KS.
Marvin worked at International Harvester for 28 years and was on the Board of Directors at IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union for 38 years. He owned and operated Spohn Welding in East Moline IL and finished his working career as owner of Spohn Ground and Maintenance, maintaining the IH Credit Unions throughout the Quad Cities.
Marvin was formerly a member of New Life, Moline as well as Moline Gospel Temple. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and friend. He was a faithful servant to Christ and his community to the end.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Spohn; Stephen (Nancy) Spohn of Olympia, WA; grandson, Erik Spohn of North Bend, WA; granddaughter, Heidi Spohn of Troy, NY; special friends, Darryl and Meryl Knoles of East Moline, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers.
