Mary Jo Griffin, 79, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, November 23, 2014, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral Services will be at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601-38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hampton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ Church, Colona.
Mary Jo was born on July 24, 1935, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Andrew and Pauline Hyland Devinney. She married Darrell Griffin on December 10, 1955 in Moline, IL. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1998.
Mary Jo graduated from Port Byron Academy. She served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 plus years. She was an active member of her churches, first at Moline Gospel Temple, and for the last six years at Christ Church in Colona, where, as a staff member, she organized prayer teams and women's groups. She was a loyal friend to many, including some lifelong friends. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved to cook holiday and birthday meals for her family. Her loving care was evident in the fact that she was very concerned that her family would have to eat canned gravy this year! She loved to feed the birds and watch the deer. She was an avid reader, especially of the Bible. Most of all, she enjoyed her family and grandchildren.
