Mary Neer Gillespie

Mary Neer Gillespie, 84, of East Moline, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at UnityPoint Heath – Trinity, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Homewood Evangelical Free Church, 3303 60th St, Moline, IL 61265. Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd, 6601 38th Ave, Moline, IL 61265. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Mary was born on December 21, 1937, in East Moline, the daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Hutchison) Winthurst. She married Jerry Neer on March 23, 1957, in East Moline. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2010. She later married Willard Gillespie. Mary worked as a bookkeeper at Bishop’s Buffet in South Park Mall. She was a member at Homewood Evangelical Free Church. At the church she helped with Awana and bible study. She enjoyed playing cards and being with her grandchildren. Mary was a huge fan of the Fighting Illini and the New York Yankees.

Survivors include sons, Terry (Michele) Neer, Port Byron, and Barry Neer, Moline; daughter, Shari (Ken) Hansen, East Moline; daughter-in-law, Connie Neer, Le Claire, IA; sister, Marsha Larson, Moline; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Neer, parents, and 5 brothers.
