Mary E. Sand

Mary E. Sand, 85, of Moline, passed away on December 9, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday December 12, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Private burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Charter Senior Living of Moline, Riverside United Methodist Church, or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Mary was born on February 28, 1940, in Rock Island, the daughter of Earl and Helen C. (Yeager) Cunningham. She graduated from Alleman High School, class of 1959. She married Howard O. Sand on August 27, 1960, in Rock Island. She had previously been employed as an Assistant Manager for Hardee’s in Moline. Mary was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going on fishing trips to Minnesota and taking cruises. She was an avid card player and was formerly active in a bowling league where she made many friends. She was a loving and active grandmother, attending all of her grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include her husband, Howard; daughter, Julie (Brad) Boyle, Moline and Douglas (Jana) Sand, Port Byron; 5 grandchildren, Austin (Faith) Boyle, Bettendorf, Allison (Griffin) Kuntz, Cedar Rapids, Mitchell (fiancé Abby Schoeck) Sand, Bettendorf, Tyler (fiancé Mikala Warner) Sand, East Moline, Peyton Sand, Port Byron; great grandchildren, Everly Boyle, Grover Kuntz and a great granddaughter Boyle due any day; brother, James Cunningham, Hart, Michigan; brother-in-law, Fred Attwood, Rock Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marjory Attwood, brother, Donald Cunningham, and sister-in-law, Alice Cunningham.
