Mary Louise (Williams) Sandford, 84, died March 28, 2009, in Hampton, IL. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.
Mary was born on September 23, 1924, in Riverton, Kansas, to Ira V. and Elnora (Harvey) Williams. She graduated from Riverton High School in 1942, and married Charles William Sandford on May 17, 1942, at the Riverton Friends Church. They had two children, Charles Dennis and Cheryl Louise. Mary was an active member of several women's organizations during her lifetime, including PEO and the Bechtel Wives Club. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, charity work, gardening and spending time with her family.
Mary and her husband retired to Rancho Santa Fe, California, for nearly 20 years before moving to Hampton, Illinois in 2004. They celebrated 66 years of marriage in May 2008.
Survivors include a son,Charles (Maribeth) Sandford of Marengo, IL; a daughter, Cheryl L. (Roger) Bayness of Port Byron; a sister, Leah Jean Thomas of Hannibal, MO; a brother, Lloyd Dean Williams of Wichita, KS; a sister in law, Lola Anderson of Tucson, AZ; a brother-in-law, Jack Dean of Tucson, AZ; three grandchildren, Jennifer L.(Scott) McFadden, Jeremy D.(Jennifer) Bayness, Brittany E. (Blake) Pawlikowski; two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Madai and Paul (Stephanie) Fleming; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey L. and Ava G. McFadden and Katelyn J. Bayness; and five stepgreat-grandchildren, Anna Marie, Aubrie and Amanda Madai and Ben and Mia Fleming.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Ira and Elnora Williams; her brothers, Jonathan E. Williams, Alvin G. Williams, Alpha H. Williams, and Nelson E. Williams; and her sisters, Marjorie Martin and Naomi Kenyon.
