Maxyne J. Willcox, 95, of East Moline, IL, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Genesis Medical Center – Silvis Campus, Silvis, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 777 25th Avenue, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Entombment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.
Maxyne was born on August 30, 1920, in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Frank and Olive Sumstine Carpenter. She married Cliff Nygren on July 28, 1940, in Moingona, IA, and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1944. She later married Milton J. Willcox on June 12, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, and he preceded her in death in October of 2011.
Maxyne graduated from the Iowa State Teacher’s College which is now the University of Northern Iowa. She taught grades 1 through 8 in several one room schoolhouses in the Boone, IA, region. Later, she was honored as a former teacher in the Luther, Iowa Parade in 1993.
For over 55 years, Maxyne was a member of First Presbyterian Church in East Moline. She loved her church as well as the people of the church. She was very involved in every capacity and looked forward to the monthly Bible Study with the Presbyterian Women’s Circle.
She enjoyed playing Bridge and participated in several Bridge marathons. Maxyne was PTA president and a member of King’s Daughters.
Survivors include her daughter, Melinda J. (James) Cewe, Port Byron, IL; son, Milton (Lisa) Willcox, Jr., East Moline, IL; 11 grandchildren, Malachi (Amy) Willcox, East Moline, IL, Samuel (Stephanie) Willcox, Moline, IL, John (Anita) Willcox, East Moline, IL, Stephen (Ashley-Nicole) Willcox, Hartford, SD, Daniel (DeAnna) Willcox, Taylor Ridge, IL, Micah (Trina) Cewe, Camanche, IA, Brian (Shannon) Cewe, Kaiserslautern, Germany, Tobiah (Jessica) Cewe, Royal Oak, MI, Dana Cewe, Port Byron, IL, Erik (fiancé, Kendra Markle) Cewe, Port Byron, IL, and Olivia Cewe, Port Byron, IL; 19 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Carpenter, Des Moines, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, John and Charles.
