Mike Ryan passed away on April 7, 2026, at his home in Sun City, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 1, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. The burial will immediately follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. A luncheon will take place at the Eagle’s Club in Carbon Cliff, Illinois at 1:00 pm.
Mike was born on September 1, 1945, in Rock Island, Illinois to Vincent and Dorothy Ryan. He was the youngest of the family as his sister Glory Ann was the first born. He graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island in 1964. After serving in the US Air Force, he received his BS Degree in Education from Illinois State University in 1972. Later, he completed his master’s in education and Ed Specialist Degree in Education from Western Illinois University.
Mike worked in education for 37 years. His first teaching/coaching position was at Annawan High School. He then went on to Alleman High School to teach and coach. During his ten years of employment at Alleman, he also held the positions of Dean of Students and Director of Development. Mike then became the Principal at Colona Grade School from 1985-1995. He then had the great opportunity to become the Superintendent of Schools for the Erie CUSD #1 in Illinois for thirteen (13) years. He retired in 2008. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and being the Commissioner of the Sandbagger’s Golf Club in Sun City. Mike also was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Surviving him is his wonderful wife of 53 years, June. Mike and June had two beautiful children, Tammy and Michael (Jill). Mike and June have four grandchildren: Maddox Perez, Jacob Ryan, Noah Ryan, and Matthew Ryan. Mike loved to watch the boys play in their sports activities.
