Mildred E. Lee, 94, of Geneseo, IL, formerly of Orion, IL, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo, IL, with her family at her side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1402 10th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Village of Geneseo or to Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church of Orion.
Mildred was born on July 13, 1919, near the village of Seaton, New Boston Township, Mercer Co., IL, the daughter of Christopher H. and Estella E. (Bauguess) Gillespie. She attended school in that area. She married Louis D. Lee on August 19, 1934, in Alexis, IL, at St. Theresa Rectory, Alexis, IL, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1994.
She farmed with her husband in the Aledo, Gerlaw, Joy and Alpha areas. She earned her LPN certificate and practiced nursing at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg. After retiring from farming and nursing, she drove school buses for the Orion School District where she retired in 1978. She had belonged to St. Theresa Catholic Church at Alexis and New Boston, St. John's Catholic Church at Woodhull and Mary, Our Lady of Peace, Orion. She was very active at St. John's serving as president of the Altar and Rosary Society.
The Oxford Busy Stitchers Club gave her many happy hours of sewing, crocheting, and needlepoint. She loved spending time with her family and attending the sporting events for her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Anderson and Barbara (Jack) Perry, sons, Gary (Sharon) Lee, Randy Lee, Rodney (Kim) Lee; 10 grandchildren, Angie Anderson, Tom (Lara) Anderson, Todd Perry, Lisa Perry, Tracy (Doug) Lee-Foutz, David Lee, Matthew (Jennifer) Lee, Danielle Lee, Austin (Kara) Lee, and Adrian Lee; 6 step grandchildren, Sherie Parsons, Krista (Gordon) Talbot, Jamie Parsons, Josh (Priscilla) Parsons, Shana (Russ) Byrd, and Jessi Parsons; 1 great grandson, Logan Lee; one great granddaughter due in June, 2014; 11 step great grandchildren; 1 local niece, Amy Jo (Gillespie) Miller; and 1 local nephew, Patrick Lee, and several other loving nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, James Henry Gillespie and his wife Agnes, and Chauncey Dwayne Gillespie; sister, Alberta "Vertie" Blair and her husband, Morris; daughter-in-law, Tina Lee and son-in-law, Bill Anderson.
