Mildred “Grannie” A. Bern, 92, of Bettendorf, IA, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at St. Mary Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Davenport, IA, following a brief illness.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mildred was born on October 17, 1923, in Waupanecki, Atoka County, OK, one of the six daughters of Joe and Cora Hopkins Gaddis. She married Willie Littrell in 1938. She later met and fell in love with the love of her life, Ralph Bern. They married in 1968 and shared many years together until his passing in 1976. She worked as a day care operator for Bio Plasma Services, retiring in 1995.
Mildred was known by most as Grannie and was Grannie to all children, big and small. Grannie loved everyone, and had a wonderful sense of humor that kept her so young for so many years. Grannie lived for others, always loving and always giving. She loved her little dog, “Tate”, and bird, “Charlie Bird”.
Grannie often spoke of the good times with Grandpa Bern, the love and comfort she had when he was alive. The family is comforted knowing she is in his arms dancing once again surrounded by angels.
Grannie is survived by her children, Patricia (Thomas Clain) Buckingham, Bettendorf, IA, and Cecil (Mary Ann) Littrell of Moline; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Cora; husband, Ralph; and sons, Marvin and James.
