Miriam Anna Louise Johnson

Miriam Anna Louise Johnson, 94, formerly of Moline, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Portland, OR.

Services will be held at the First Covenant Church in Moline, at 10:30AM, on August 1, 2012. Burial will take place on the Rock Island Arsenal with beloved husband Harry. A luncheon at the church will then follow. Memorials may be given to the church or any Christian organization. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Miriam was born in Moline, Illinois, on September 2, 1917. Her parents were Ivar and Agnes Gunt. She married Harry Johnson on October 4th, 1941, in Moline, at the First Evangelical Free Church. Miriam graduated from Moline High School and attended Augustana College. She worked at Royal Neighbors, the Statistical Department of the Rock Island Arsenal (during WWII), and the Moline High School Library.

Miriam was a member of the First Covenant Church in Moline. She was a pianist, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Library Committee, music committee, the Diaconate, and was a former program chair of Adult Fellowship. She was a charter member of the Triple "C" Circle of King's Daughters organized in 1934, a lifetime member of King's Daughters, and also a lifetime member of PT. She was also an auxiliary member of the Trinity Hospital for over forty years, a former Girl Scout leader, a former Board member of the Moline YWCA and member of the SKM club. Miriam taught knitting at the YWCA. She loved to play the piano and did so for many occasions.

In 2006, Miriam moved to Oregon to be close to her daughter, Monique, and was active in the retirement community in which she lived. She attended the West Hills Covenant Church in Portland.

She is survived by her daughter, Monique, sister-in-law, Violet (Gordan), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends whom she loved. A daughter, Michele, and her husband, Harry, preceded her in death. Miriam was beloved and will remain forever in our hearts.
