Nat Paul Seuam, 68, of East Moline, IL, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, at home.
A traditional Buddhist funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be at Wat Lao Phothikaram in Rockford, IL. Memorials may be made to his family.
Nat was born on March 29, 1945, in Attapeu, Laos, the son of Martin Ninh and Jeanette Thip. While he was attending medical school he was asked to join the Royal Laos Air Force. He joined the Royal Lao Air Force in 1965 at the age of 21. He was trained as a pilot of the T-28 aircraft. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was part of the SGU Laos Veterans U.S. Secret Army. He flew missions over the Ho Chi Minh Trail. His aircraft was shot down in 1967. He was severely injured but was rescued by friendly forces. He underwent medical treatment in Thailand and then at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. After his medical release he returned to Laos and was a flight instructor for the Air Force. He brought his family to the United States in 1978 fearing the Communist forces in Laos. He settled his family in the Quad Cities. He attended Black Hawk College and opened a family grocery store. After closing the store, he later opened a family restaurant in Rock Island. Nat and his wife, Debbie, have 4 children together and 1 adopted son.
Nat was a member of Wat Lao Phothikaram in Rockford, IL, and the American Legion Post 57 in Elgin, IL. He enjoyed photography, walking, gardening, and meditation. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house. More than anything, Nat loved being around his family and grandchildren.
