Nina Velare Anderson, 100, of Moline, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on May 10, 2021, at First Covenant Church, Moline. A livestream will also be available at esterdahl.com on her obituary page. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on May 10 at the church. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Covenant Church, Quad City Music Guild, or the Bettendorf Family Museum In accordance with restrictions, attendees are expected to wear a face mask and observe social distancing.
Velare was born on September 6, 1920, in Moline, the daughter of Earnest A. and Nina (Wadman) Edlund. She married Forrest G. Anderson on February 2, 1941, in Moline. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1992.
Velare was previously employed at Farmall, Moline Public Schools and Von Maur. Velare was a long-time volunteer at Quad City Music Guild, Davenport Family Museum and Playcrafters Theater. She also was a member of Sweet Adelines barbershop choruses in the Quad Cities and Iowa City, and sang in an international chorus competition. She was a lifelong member of First Covenant Church in Moline.
Survivors include her sons, Gary (Martha), Lexington, KY, Jeff (Mary Jo), West Des Moines, IA and Scott, Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Peter (Lori), Fairview Park, OH, Eric (Meredith), Des Moines, IA, and Ryan (Kathryn), Fishers, IN; also two great-grandchildren, Seth Ketchum and Ava Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, Claude, Richard, Paige.
