O. Lynn Snider

Born: September 23rd, 1929      Died: October 26th, 2025      Age: 96

Lynn went by many names, but he didn’t care for Orville. Lynn, Dad, Gramps, and Papa were his favorites, and he cherished all roles.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Private Family Graveside Services will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Compassus, Moline.

Born in Missouri, raised on the farm, Lynn graduated from Shelbina High School in 1947. Like many other young men, in 1948, Lynn moved to Moline, IL to find work. On the day he arrived he started working second shift for Minneapolis-Moline Farm Implement Mfg Co. In 1950, he married Carolyn Daniel of Monroe, MO, who he met in Sunday School at the age of 16. They remained in Moline for the rest of their lives, raising two daughters. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before Carolyn passed in 2021.

In 1955, a friend recognized Lynn’s talents with numbers and organization and invited him to work for Montgomery Elevator in their accounting department. Lynn took night classes in accounting at Blackhawk college and advanced to positions of Cost Accounting Mgr., Material Price Advisor, & Corporate Purchasing Administrator. Lynn worked for Montgomery for over 35 years, retiring in 1991.

Away from work Lynn loved to be outdoors. He and Carolyn spent hours and hours tending to their large gardens. His yard and property were always the best kept on the block. Lynn’s garden equipment was meticulously cared for and always well maintained. Even well into his 80’s Lynn would spend hours with a garden hoe making sure every weed was removed and plants properly cared for. There were no rules of course when grandkids Aaron and Jodi came to play or “help” in the garden. Aaron spent many hours with, and treasured his best friend, Gramps. Jodi kept Papa on his toes with her always curious questions. Lynn and Carolyn loved ending each day on the back porch swing, enjoying their home and keeping a watchful eye on their beloved cat Harley.

For the last 3 years Lynn has been happy at Charter Assisted Living. Daily, Lynn would go out on the porch to put bird seed out, peanuts for the squirrels, and cat food for the stray cat that always seems to find Lynn’s doorstep. The deer and racoons would come in the evening to clean up the leftovers. A visit with Great granddaughter Payton always brought a smile and she was the first person he would ask about. He loved to spoil his great grand dogs Otter and Brinker at the dinner table, thinking we didn’t notice more food going to them than to himself!

Lynn was preceded in death by parents and siblings, his wife Carolyn, and grandson Aaron Morford.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Robert) Pearson, Karen (Rod) Jensen, granddaughter Jodi (Mitch) Zimmerman, and great-granddaughter Payton, all living in Moline.
