Patricia A. Marr, 83, of East Moline, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 12, 2023. She lived her life loving the Lord, her family and friends.
She spent her childhood years in Chillicothe, Missouri, and met her sweetheart, David Marr, at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. They were married in August of 1958. After starting their teaching careers and family in Macon, Missouri, they planted roots in the Quad Cities and began teaching at United Township High School. She taught business courses for many years before obtaining a Master's degree from Northern Arizona University. She became a Counselor at United Township and loved helping students in their personal and academic growth.
After retiring from UTHS, she authored four books under the moniker of Patt Marr for Steeple Hill Books, a faith-based division of Harlequin Enterprises. She received the National Readers Choice Award for the Best Inspirational Romance of 2000 for her first book, "Angels In Disguise," and The Emma Merritt Award from Romance Writers of America for service.
Patt's passion was using her many talents for Christ. She was an accomplished pianist, director of dramas, choirs, ensembles and soloists, and a Sunday School leader. She filled her home with melodies of praise and worship from her grand piano.
Patt is survived by David, her beloved husband of 64 years; her daughter, J Marr, and son, Dane (Carla) Marr; granddaughters, Taylar (Jordan) Stewart and Kendra Marr; grandsons, Matt (Amy) Ward and Scott (Cassie) Ward; and, great-grandchildren, Zoe, Katie and Jaxon.
While a private memorial service will be held with the immediate family at a later date, Patt would want everyone to know her favorite song lyrics:
"When I meet my Lord,
I'll take Him by the hand.
I'll leave this world behind,
And heaven I will find.
My troubles will be gone.
I'll sing a brand new song.
My weakness will be strong.
With Jesus, I belong.
I'll walk on streets of gold.
I'll have a brand new home.
My body will be whole,
And I will not grow old.
I'll see my friends I'm told.
My loved ones I will know.
Christ's treasures I will own.
I'll kneel before His throne.
Christ is the way for me
To live eternally.
He died to set me free,
A gift that I've received.
And when I meet my Lord,
I'll take Him by the hand,
I'll leave this world behind,
And heaven I will find.
Yes, heaven I will find."
Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
