Pearl Arlene Holton Gillespie, 95, of Rock Island, IL, formerly of Moline and Cambridge, IL, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. also on Saturday at the Jerome Cemetery in Jerome, Iowa. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
Pearl was born on December 19, 1918, in Montezuma, IA, the daughter of Charles Henry and Clara Ethel Close Holton. She attended school in Mahaska County, IA, and then moved to Seymour, IA, in 1928. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1936. She married Dale E. Gillespie on November 28, 1940, in Centerville, IA, and he preceded her in death on June 21, 1987.
Pearl was a 19 year employee of Cambridge Community Unit Schools as an Educational Secretary, retiring in 1978. She formerly was a member of Cambridge Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council and was a substitute organist and member of WELCA. She was a former Trustee of the Cambridge Library Board.
She moved to Moline in 1995. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Moline, the Mary/Martha Circle of WELCA, Cambridge Chapter NSDAR, associate member of Mary Little Deere Chapter NSDAR, and the Cambridge Social Hour Club.
