Phillip W. Thompson, 67, of Moline, IL, died Friday, October 30, 2015, at home.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015, at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Prior to the service, a memorial visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to any local animal shelter.
Phillip was born on August 11, 1948, in Moline, IL, the son of Russell E. and Fern A. Kortum Thompson. He worked as a welder for McLaughlin for 37 years, retiring in 2011. He was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Phillip was a member of First Christian Church. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Black Hawks. He loved playing horseshoes.
Survivors include his brother, Donald Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; grandmother and great grandmother.
