Ray, as he was known, was born on June 21, 1934 in Bellwood, IL. He loved playing baseball and fishing, passions that he passed on to his children. He met and married Carolyn who was from Toronto and began a family first in Addison Illinois and then moved west to Milan Illinois where he spent the last 38 years. Ray was a formidable salesperson of industrial components and knew every smokestack in Western Illinois and Eastern Iowa. Ray was also a long time minister in the New Apostolic Church and led the Rock Island congregation for many years. He will be remembered for his lively sense of humor and warmth as well as a folksy spirituality through which he ministered to many over the years. Ray also developed a love for photography, traveling, golf and cooking and though advancing arthritis never allowed him to be as good a golfer as he desired he was remarkably successful in the other areas. The Sunday dinners Ray and Carolyn prepared together will be remembered by many friends and family that always looked forward to an afternoon of good food and company.
Ray was a loving husband to Carolyn, father to Stuart, Brian and Jane and grandfather to Sarah, 20, Jordan, 19, Haley, 14, Maddie, 12, Lauren, 9, and Jack, 5 and he has hundreds of pictures to prove it! Ray treated his daughters-in-law Carol and Janet like they were his own children and enjoyed the company of Jane's best friend Donald. His wit, love and laughter along with his affection for people and cigars will be remembered.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, William, mother, Louise, sister, Louise and brother, Bill. He was a great example for all.
