Raymond "Punky" Richard Knittle, 84, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, August 06, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015, at Hope United Church of Christ, 3324 41st Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246.
Raymond was born on June 12, 1931, in Rock Island, IL, the 10th child of James and Anna Carlson Knittle. He married Marilyn F. Hill on November 23, 1951, in Moline, IL.
He was a member of the Moline Police Department for 20 years, retiring in May of 1988. He was then self-employed in security for 14 years working for Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House.
He was a Korean Veteran having served in the Marine Corps.
Ray was a member of Hope United Church of Christ in Moline. He was a member of the Moline American Legion, the Social Viking Club, and a lifetime member of the Illinois Police Association.
Ray enjoyed playing golf, PlayStation games, traveling and spending winters in Arizona. He was a St. Louis Cardinal and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn; sons, Rick (Vicki) Knittle, Moline, IL, and Joe (Donna) Knittle, Moline, IL; granddaughters, Amber Knittle, Jamie Knittle, and Cheri Lerch; grandsons, Don Jacobs, Ron Jacobs, and Alex Soricelli; many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kate Johnson, Anna Marie Kinser, and Helen McGraw; brothers, Donald, Frank, Charles, William, James, and Robert; grandson, Michael Jacobs.
