Renea was born on September 10, 1950, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Charlie and Edna (Buemann) Thoeming. She attended Eastern Iowa Community College and received an Associate's Degree in Data Programming. She married Lawrence "Larry" W. Nickerson on November 24, 1973, at St. John's Catholic Church, Rapids City, IL.
Renea was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Moline. She worked as a secretary for Ametech and then for J.D. Industrial Equipment Co., Moline, working at the Moline High School Cafeteria for 13 years. During her time there, Renea would give the children lunch money out of her own pocket. Also, Renea was a caregiver for her neighbors. Renea loved dancing and gardening. She collected Isabel Blooms and Longaberger Baskets. Renea liked to shop for shoes, clothing, and purses. For 38 years she helped hang Christmas lights decorating as if hers was the Griswold house. Inside her home, Renea went all out with decorating. She had even created a whole town of Department 56 Snow Village houses under the family Christmas tree.
Above all, the love of Renea's life was her husband, children and grandchildren.
