A Special Brother

Meeting Ricky Boy for the first time a person would notice there is something different.  Most people would stare and see the things he couldn’t do.  However, family looked at Ricky and seldom saw what he couldn’t do.  Ricky Boy was considered a “special needs” person, it should be stated that he was “Differently Able” he had less ability but not inability.  If you looked hard you could still find the beauty in it all, because it is only when we have endured through the storm that we are lucky enough to see the rainbow.

Ricky Boy (a special angel) was our rainbow. Through the tough times, adversity, challenges and the pain, he shone through with a special light.  It’s not fair that he shone brightly only for a short time and then left us to run free with the other angels.   Yet we can be assured that like the rainbow, he was a blessing from above. We can both mourn the loss of his life and we can celebrate the life he led and the lessons he gave us:  To walk your own path, have courage and confidence to move forward, to fight your battles- good things don’t come easy, Live and let live, with Humility, Trust, Forgiveness, Kindness, Patience and to Love unconditionally.  He was meek and mild in presence, yet so amazing, powerful and impactful in the way he could do things. Ricky could smile, laugh, give hugs, and he could show his love profoundly without ever saying a word.

He was an inspiration; because he helped in teaching us about our own strengths and gifts.  He also taught us how to be happy because he took joy in simple things- joy in seeing his family, playing with toys and jump ropes/shoestrings, blowing bubbles, tossing balloons, and loved being in the water. (swimming pool and bath tubs).  For all the ways he inspired us to be better and for all the love he gave while he was here with us, he was a gift to each of us and may we never forget this beautiful special angel. May we honor his memory every time we look up to the sky, look past the clouds and see the rainbow.

Those left to cherish Ricky's memory are his mother, Petra; siblings, Chela, Alexander, Edward, Gloria, and Christina; and many other friends and family.
