Richard Boney, 74, of Orion, IL, died July 22, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on July 27, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery in Orion. Memorials may be made to the Orion Lions Club or to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Rich was born on December 10, 1942 in Moline, IL, the son of Leo and Florence (Leuth) Boney. Rich graduated in 1960 from Orion High School. He began his career with John Deere in June 1962, acquiring 30 years of service and retiring in 1995 as a mechanic from the Product Development Division. After he retired, he went to work at Myers Plumbing & Heating.
Rich was a member of the Lions Club in Orion for 30 years and participated in monthly cookouts for the Lions Club. He was known for his pork chops at Orion’s Fall Festival. He was an avid Cubs fan, and enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Janet; daughters, Kristina McCann, AZ, Kim (Todd) Hast, New Windsor, IL, Julie (Bill Eggleston) Boney, Radine Boney, New Mexico; sons, Bradley (Dawn) Boney, Moline, Rick Boney, Des Moines, John Bartels, Des Moines; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother Ralph (Sally) Boney, Lynn Center; and sister, Lea Hock, Coal Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Velda Veith.
