Richard Fredrick DeCraene

February 15, 1926 — June 13, 2013

Richard "Dick" Fredrick DeCraene, 87, of Moline, IL, passed peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Unity Point Health, Trinity Rock Island in Rock Island, IL.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3209 60th Street, Moline, IL. Military honors will be provided by Moline American Legion Post #246. Per Dick's wishes cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dick was born on February 15, 1926, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Peter and Louisa (Boerjan) DeCraene. He married Betty Lou Anderson on July 3, 1948, in Kewanee, and moved to Madison, WI, where they shared most of their life together.

Dick was a United States Navy Veteran and was very proud to have participated in an Honor Flight in 2011. He retired as a Press Room Superintendent with the Madison Newspapers, Inc. in 1991 after 39 years. Dick enjoyed gardening, camping, hiking, driving trips and the VandeReubens at the Belgian Village Inn. Dick loved his family and especially enjoyed the annual reunions. He always had a great sense of humor that was with him right up to the very end.

Granddaughters Leanne DeCraene Los Angeles, CA
Allison DeCraene Bloomfield Hills, MI

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rich DeCraene; siblings, Marcel, Marie, Ed, Hank, Vic, and Bob.
