Richard J. Dorbeck, 83, of Rock Island, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at UnityPoint Trinity Rock Island.
Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 with a Masonic service at 4:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38 Avenue, Moline. A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at First Christian Church 1826 16 Street, Moline. Private burial will be at a later time. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital or First Christian Church.
Dick was born on September 28, 1932 in Moline the son of Herbert and Pauline Rekiere Dorbeck. He married Emma Jean Livengood on January 18, 1953 at Memorial Christian Church in Rock Island.
Dick attended Moline schools and was a 1950 graduate from Moline High School. He went on to attend the Moline Community College and completed an apprenticeship as a Field Artillery Mechanic and retired as Chief of Maintenance Directorate after a 38 year career with the Army Weapons Command at the Rock Island Arsenal.
Dick was very active in Masonry as a member of the Mohassan Grotto, DeMolay Legion of Honor, life member of the Moline Lodge 1014 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies of Moline and Kaaba Shriners, serving as Potentate in 1988 and was honored by being appointed Imperial Potentate's Aide to the Imperial Potentate of the International Shrine. He served on the board of directors for the Iowa Shrine Bowl and was an emeritus Secretary of the Chicago Shriners Hospital and a longtime member of the Blackhawk Shrine Club. He was instrumental in organizing the screening clinics held in the Quad City area for children who were potential patients of Shriners Hospitals. Dick also served on the board of the Scottish Rite Dyslexic Center for many years.
Dick was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts having served as a Scout Master. He also volunteered at the John Deere Classic for nearly 30 years. Dick was an active member and Elder of the First Christian Church of Moline having served in many capacities. Dick's goal in life was always to help children in any way he could. Above all Dick loved his family and relished in teasing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Jean of 62 years.
