Richard Edward Hamer, 86, of Moline, died on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus, Silvis.
Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial visitation will be on Friday, September 18th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38 Avenue, Moline. Private inurnment will take place at a later time in Chippiannock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Chippiannock Cemetery Heritage Foundation.
Richard was born on November 1, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Ruth French Hamer. He married Jean Marie Mincks on August 24, 1956 in Newton, Iowa.
Richard was self-employed in home improvement sales. After retirement he and his wife worked for Metro Link presenting historical tours of the Quad City area. He also did numerous public speaking engagements on local history. He was very proud of being a published author and historian. Richard co-wrote the book "Citadel of Sin" the John Looney Story, after 15 years of research. He was a past member of both the Moline and Rock Island Preservation Societies and the Rock Island County Historical Society. Above all he never met a stranger.
