Richard N. Pettifer

Richard N. Pettifer, age 85, of Moline, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at his residence.

A memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd, 6601-38th Avenue, Moline with a Masonic service. Visitation is from 2:00-4:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal at a later date where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline.

Richard was born May 23, 1927 in Moline, the son of Chester and Norma Katherine (Wiegandt) Pettifer. He married Rose Mae Naomi Swanson on April 3, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Richard farmed in Henry and Rock Island counties. He was a medic in the Army Air Corp. Richard was also employed by Rock Island County as a road worker. He was also an engineer for the East Moline State Hospital/Correctional Facility. Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Orion Sherman Lodge # 535, Coal Valley Lions Club, and the Rock Island County Democratic Party.

He was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Tony) Smolenski; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon (Merilyn) Pettifer; and a granddaughter.
