Richard “Rick” E. Thomsen, 68, of Orion, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials are made out to the family, for a fund to be established to the Orion community.

Rick was born on December 7, 1957, in Moline, IL, the son of Robert and Betty (Littell) Thomsen. He married Bobbi Sue Utsinger at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion on October 21, 1978; she preceded him in death on December 30, 2025. Rick was a member of the Orion United Methodist Church. He worked as a truck driver for VanOpdorp Trucking Inc and loved his purple semi-truck. Rick enjoyed going on jeep rides, attending various sporting events for his kids and grandkids, attending Orion basketball games, and chauffeuring Bobbi and her friends around. He also loved the band, ‘Here Come the Mummies’.

Survivors include his sons, Brandon Thomsen and Bryce (Abby) Thomsen; grandchildren, Lily Laws, Lexie Rae Thomsen, Braxton, Maddox, and Kinsley Sue Thomsen; great-grandchild, Parker Rae Laws; siblings, Loma Cashion, Robert “Butch” (Linda) Thomsen, and Ronna (Frank) Roessler; sisters-in-law, Terri Siegel (Mike) and Jill Osowski (Mark); step-mother-in-law, Linda Utsinger; step-brother-in-law, Brian Krueger; step-sister-in-law, Andrea Kurth; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbi; parents, Robert and Betty; father-in-law, Floyd Utsinger; mother-in-law, Dixie Krueger; step-father-in-law, William Krueger.
