Richard Wirt

Richard W. Wirt, 70, of Moline, IL, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary& Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Richard was born on November 3, 1943, in Moline, IL, the son of William Otis and Dora Mae (Bolender) Wirt.
He married Nancy J. (Turner) Nelson on March 24, 1993, in Hot Springs, AR. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired in 1996 after 25 years of service as a driver for UPS.

Richard was an LCN electrician and built several homes in the Quad Cities area. He was the owner of Geneseo Welding Shop. He was also a life member of the Moline American Legion Post 246 and the Moline VFW Post 2153. Richard also was a former union steward for Teamster Local 710.

Richard loved to help people. He enjoyed cooking, photography, working in the yard, and the outdoors. More than anything, he enjoyed his time spent with his family and his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step father, Charles Reese, II.
