Robert Bruce Ator

November 24, 1957 — April 5, 2013

Robert Bruce Ator, 55, of Milan passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island after a two year battle with cancer faced with bravery and a positive outlook.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home, 1301 4th Street, Orion. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 following a 1 p.m. visitation at Ward-Lummis Funeral Home, 502 S Main Street, Pleasant Hill. Burial will follow at the Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

Bob was born November 24, 1957 in Peoria, the son of Carolyn and Roy Ator. Hea�©grew up in Orion and graduated from Orion High School in 1975. He found his passion for the trucking industry at a young age. He started his own business, Bob Ator Trucking and ran it for 20 years. Knowledgable in all aspects of trucking, he enjoyed travelling the country in his favorite trucks "Golden Nugget" and "Silver Bullet". Bob was not afraid of hard work and gave 100 percent in all that he did. Bob also worked for US Auctioneers, arranging sales in different cities. He last worked for Mississippi Truck and Trailer as a diesel mechanic.

A member of the Orion United Methodist Church and the Rock Island Boat Club, Bob will be remembered for his smile and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. A loving father, his greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. He'll be remembered for his adventurous spirit and passion for life. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all.


Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Sallie; his parents, Orion; his daughters, Kelly (Nick) Oliver, Des Moines, Iowa and Holly (Craig) Dobbins, Durant, Iowa; his stepchildren Katie Mullens, Portland, Oregon and Brian (Samantha) Mullens, Sherrard. Survivors also include Laurie Larson Nelson, the mother of his daughters; his 6 beloved grandchildren, Logan, Kaycie, Dillan, Autumn, Preston, and Abigail; his sister, Vera (Peter) McAvoy, Mendham, NJ; his brother, Steve (Jenny) Ator, State Line, IN; and many devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as a wealth of close friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Orion United Methodist Church
