Robert M. Cunningham

Robert “Bob” Monroe Cunningham, 102, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Moline, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Heritage of Bloomington.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Robert was born on March 11, 1920, in Ava, Missouri, the son of Archie and Pearl (Sanders) Cunningham. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Elsie LaVerne Welton on July 22, 1939, in Hartsville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 17, 2011. He retired in 1978, after 30 years at the Rock Island Arsenal where he was employed as a supervisor of the machine shop. He was a former member of Edgewood Church in Rock Island. He taught Sunday School in his early years at Silvis Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending his winters in Texas and Florida and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Jerry (Ann) Cunningham, Bloomington; grandchildren, Quint, Brooke, David, Emily; six great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; three great great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; and daughter-in-law, Donna Cunningham.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Robert; brothers, Duane and Elmo.
