Robert "Bob" Allen Kaps, 56, of Moline, IL, formerly of West Brooklyn and Mendota, IL, died Wednesday, October 8, 2014, in Moline after a courageous 18 month battle with metastatic lung cancer.
Reverend Randy Fronek will be officiating a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Brooklyn, Illinois, at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October, 11, 2014, followed by a reception at the parish hall. Cremation rights have been accorded. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bob was born December 11, 1957, to Walter Leonard and Fay Ellen Gehant Kaps. Bob went to St. Mary's Grade School in West Brooklyn and Mendota High School in Mendota, Illinois. He was an expert printer and traveled across the country, including Hawaii, to install and train staff on complex printing presses. He was also an entrepreneur and ran his own trucking company for years traveling across the United States. He was a gifted tradesman and jack-of-all-trades with a can do and down to earth approach to work and life. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Foresters and The Knights of Columbus.
Bob was known for his independent, outgoing and friendly manner to one and all. He was extremely resourceful and intelligent. Bob loved his daughters and adored his five grandchildren. His family meant everything to him.
His two daughters, Michelle Lee Kaps, of Mendota, Illinois and Janelle Christine Kaps, of Bettendorf, Iowa, survive him. He has five beloved grandchildren: Blake, Trent, ReAnna, Brady and Ella. He is also survived by his sister, Joan (T. Brian) Condon of Cape Cod, MA, and his nephew, Matthew Allen Kraft and his wife, Amanda, and their son, Dylan Oliver, of Boston, MA.
His grandfather, Oliver L. Gehant, his mother, Fay Ellen Kaps, of West Brooklyn, Illinois, and his father, Walter L. Kaps, of Peoria, Illinois, preceded him in death.
