Robert D. "Deano" O'Leary

Robert "Deano" Dean O'Leary, 79, of Orion, IL, died on February 21, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1402 - 10th Street, Orion, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America or The Rock Island County Animal Care and Control. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Robert was born on July 13, 1936 in Moline, IL, the son of Lucille O'Leary. He married his sweet bride, Betty Parrish, on November 17, 1956, at St. Patrick's Church in Colona, IL.

Dad was an active and devoted member of Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Orion. He was a 1953 graduate of Orion High School. He attended Western Illinois University. He was an Orion Lion's Club Member for 27 years. He also served on the Orion Village Board for 17 years. Dad was involved with the Orion Fall Festival for 41 years and celebrated his 41st year as Head of the Pork Chop Gang.

He was the first President and founder of the Orion Sports Boosters. He was a member of Orion Little League Football, coached Orion Little League Football, and Babe Ruth Baseball. He umpired countless Little League, Babe Ruth, and softball games. He was inducted into the Orion Sports Booster's Hall of Fame as an individual and team member. He was also inducted as a member of the "Chain Gang" for Orion High School football games. He was the Grand Marshall of the 2014 Orion Fall Festival Parade. He was a proud lifetime resident of Orion, who committed himself to the community, family, and friends. He was an avid golfer and member of Valley View Country Club in Cambridge.

One of his proudest moments was his retirement from John Deere Harvester Works and fulfillment of a life-long dream to build and own O'Leary's Irish Pub in his beloved Orion. His favorite pastime was knowing no enemies and embracing all as friends.

Lisa (Ron) O'Leary- Volk
Grandchildren Jenna (Jason) Ekstrom, Joshua Nathan, Aaron, Jacob, & Savannah Volk
His beloved cat, Sammy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille O'Leary, and son, Brian Charles O'Leary.
